No, Wix has no option to export or download your site as code or HTML, and its help center says a Wix site "needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers." What you can take out is your data, one feature at a time: CMS collections, products, orders, bookings, contacts and form submissions as CSV files, the images and videos you uploaded, and your domain. The design, member accounts and blog posts have no export, so leaving Wix means rebuilding, capturing the public pages as static HTML, or running another platform's importer.
What Wix says about exporting a site
Wix answers the question in Exporting or Embedding Your Wix Site Elsewhere. Wix sites run on its SaaS platform, and that "SaaS architecture does not support external hosting." The same article says the content you build on Wix belongs to you. Both are true at once: you own the words and images, but the pages only work on Wix.
There is no "Export site" button, whatever some older how-to articles claim. When a Wix Studio user asked on Wix's community forum in July 2024 how to export their site to HTML and host it themselves, a Wix team member replied that it isn't possible. Wix Studio sites and Wix Editor sites are in the same position.
Two features look like exits and aren't:
- Embedding. You can show a Wix site inside a page somewhere else, but Wix says it can't support embedded sites, and that Google Analytics and search engines may not work properly with them. The site is still running on Wix.
- GitHub integration for Velo code. Sites that use Velo, Wix's coding layer, can connect to GitHub and be edited in a local IDE with the Wix CLI. The repository mirrors the Public, Backend and Page Code sections of the editor's Code sidebar. Keep it as a record of your custom logic, but it's code that works with Wix page elements and Wix APIs, not a site you can deploy elsewhere.
What you can export from Wix
Every row below is a native Wix feature, checked against Wix's help center as of October 2026.
| What | Where to export it | Limits and what stays behind |
|---|---|---|
| CMS collections | CMS → open the collection → More Actions → Export to CSV | All items (hidden and system fields included), filtered items, or field names only. Times export as UTC+0. The dynamic pages that display the data stay on Wix. |
| Store products | Products → select → More Actions → Export | Up to 5,000 rows per CSV file. Digital products can't be exported. |
| Orders | Orders → select → Export | Covers Wix Stores, Bookings, Restaurants Orders and Donations. One row per order or per item; purchase times in UTC. |
| Bookings | Booking List → Export icon → Download CSV | Scroll to the end of the list first so every booking loads. The scheduling system stays on Wix. |
| Contacts | Contacts → Import / Export → Export | Up to 50,000 at a time, site owner only. Regular, Google or Outlook CSV. |
| Form submissions | Forms & Submissions → More Actions → View submissions → select → Export | CSV with times in UTC; PDFs one submission at a time. The forms need a new form service on your next platform. |
| Uploaded media | Media Manager → Cmd/Ctrl-click files → Download | Only images and videos you uploaded. There's no download-everything option, so you go folder by folder. |
| Site members | No export | Wix blocks it "due to privacy concerns." |
| Blog posts | No export to other platforms | Workarounds below. |
| Design and page layouts | No export | Rebuild or capture (below). |
Three gaps to plan around
Template images. Wix's free images are licensed "for digital use within Wix only" (Wix Help Center), and the Media Manager won't download free Wix or Shutterstock media at all. Wix's copyright page adds that Wix content, meaning anything you didn't upload yourself, can be used "within the Wix platform only." If your site started from a Wix template, replace its images before the site goes live anywhere else.
Members. A visitor who registers as a member also becomes a contact, so the contact export gives you their names and emails. The member accounts themselves don't move. Your new platform starts with no members, and you'll need to invite people back.
Blog posts. Wix's feature request page says: "Currently, it is not possible to export blog posts to other platforms." The request is collecting votes, with no date attached. What's left:
- RSS. Your blog feed holds only the 20 most recent posts. WordPress.com points Wix users to it, paired with an RSS import plugin. Wix doesn't document whether the feed carries full post text, so check yours before relying on it.
- The Blog API. A developer can pull every published post with Wix's List Posts endpoint, up to 100 per request (50 by default), adding the
RICH_CONTENTorCONTENT_TEXTfieldset to get the body. It authenticates with an API key that an account owner or co-owner generates in the Wix dashboard. Rich content comes back as a tree of node objects, not HTML, so budget time to convert it. - Copy by hand. Realistic for 20 posts, not for 300.
- Capture the post pages as static HTML (next section). They stay readable pages, but they're no longer posts in a CMS.
A minimal Blog API request looks like this:
curl 'https://www.wixapis.com/blog/v3/posts?fieldsets=RICH_CONTENT' \
-H 'Authorization: <your API key>' \
-H 'wix-site-id: <your site ID>'
Post URLs matter for the move too. Wix serves posts at /post/post-title by default, and the "post" prefix can be renamed but not removed.
What happens to your domain
If you bought the domain elsewhere and connected it to Wix, it never left your registrar. Point its DNS at the new host when the new site is ready.
If you bought it through Wix, you have two choices, both covered in Wix's transfer article:
- Keep it registered at Wix and change its nameservers. Wix suggests this if you only want your DNS managed elsewhere.
- Transfer it away. Go to Domains → Domain Actions → Transfer away from Wix. Wix emails an authorization (EPP) code to the domain's registrant contact address, and you give that code to the new registrar.
Before you transfer:
- The domain's transfer lock must be off. ICANN rules block a transfer within 60 days of purchase, of a registrant contact change, or of a previous transfer.
- Turn off Private Registration so you don't miss the transfer emails.
- A transfer usually takes up to 7 days. Renewals are then priced by the new registrar.
- Business email stops working until you add the MX records again at the new host.
- Wix says the transfer disconnects your Wix site, so have the new site ready first.
Three ways off Wix
1. Rebuild on another platform
Of the ways to leave Wix, rebuilding is the only one that gives you a working store, booking system, member area and forms on the other side, because those have to be replaced, not copied. The CSV exports above are your content source, and the live Wix site is your design reference until the new one launches.
2. Capture the public pages as static HTML
A capture tool loads each public page and saves what comes back: HTML, CSS, images and other files. HTTrack, a free GPL-licensed "offline browser," does this for any site. FNJ's Wix to HTML converter does it for published Wix sites.
We checked two published Wix pages in October 2026. The text was already in the HTML Wix sends, so a capture keeps the words, headings and links. But the pages are built to run Wix's front-end code: each HTML document was 0.7 to 0.8 MB with about 60 script tags, and 10 of the 11 external scripts loaded from one domain:
static.parastorage.com/unpkg/react@18.3.1/umd/react.production.min.js
static.parastorage.com/unpkg/react-dom@18.3.1/umd/react-dom.production.min.js
static.parastorage.com/unpkg/lodash@4.18.1/lodash.min.js
static.parastorage.com/services/wix-thunderbolt/dist/main.renderer.<hash>.bundle.min.js
static.parastorage.com/services/tag-manager-client/1.1075.0/siteTags.bundle.min.js
Images came from static.wixstatic.com. In practice that means:
- Stores, bookings, CMS pages, member login and forms depend on Wix's backend. In a capture they're a frozen picture at best: a product page shows the product but can't sell it, and a dynamic CMS page shows the items that existed on the day you captured it.
- Some visual elements (galleries, menus, mobile layouts, anything that appears after a click) are built by those scripts and may be missing or broken.
- If the capture keeps Wix's scripts, your copy still loads code from Wix's servers and depends on them for parts of its behavior.
- It's a snapshot. Later edits in Wix don't sync, and template images keep their within-Wix-only license.
Capture fits a brochure site, portfolio or landing page you want to freeze and host on your own terms. It's the wrong tool for a store, a booking business or a members site. FNJ's Wix export guide walks through checking one page before capturing the whole site, then testing the result before launch.
3. Use another platform's Wix importer
WordPress.com has a Wix importer: Tools → Import → Wix, then enter your site's URL. It brings over static pages, images, menus and the site title. It doesn't recreate your design (you pick a theme), and it doesn't import blog posts; WordPress.com sends you to the RSS route above. Self-hosted WordPress's importer list has no Wix entry.
Shopify documents a Wix migration: export products and customers from Wix as CSV and import them, or use Shopify's Store Migration app, which is in early access for some stores. Shopify says reviews can't be exported or migrated from Wix, and points to third-party apps for order history.
Or keep Wix as the backend
Wix Headless replaces the Wix-built front end with your own code while products, bookings, members and content stay in the Wix dashboard. In the self-managed version, you handle configuration, authentication and hosting yourself. Wix says Headless is free to start, with a premium plan needed to accept payments or connect a custom domain. Your business data still lives on Wix, so this is a different way of staying, not a way of leaving.
Keep your search traffic
Every Wix site publishes a sitemap index at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml (Wix Help Center), with separate sitemaps for features like Wix Stores. Save it before you move: it's your list of every URL that needs a home. Watch two Wix patterns, blog posts under /post/ and product pages under /product-page/ (unless you removed the prefix). Each old URL needs a 301 redirect to its new address on the new host. Our redirect map guide covers building that list and testing it.
A sensible order for the move
- Export the CSVs: CMS, products, orders, bookings, contacts, form submissions.
- Download your uploaded media, folder by folder.
- Save the sitemap's URL list.
- Build or capture the new site, swapping out Wix template images and replacing forms, store and bookings.
- Set up redirects and test them.
- Point the DNS or transfer the domain, then re-add MX records.
- Keep your Wix plan until the new site is verified.
Where FNJ fits
If capture is the right route for your site, FNJ's Wix to HTML converter takes a published Wix URL, captures the public pages, and gives you files to download, push to GitHub, or deploy to your own Cloudflare Pages or Vercel account. It's a snapshot of public pages: stores, bookings, CMS backends, forms and logins are not exported, and when a site blocks automated capture, FNJ tells you rather than handing over a broken export. Conversions need a paid plan (pricing).
Frequently asked questions
Can I download my Wix site as HTML?
Not from Wix. There's no export or download option, and Wix's help center says sites must run on Wix's servers. A capture tool can save the public pages as static HTML, but stores, bookings, CMS pages, forms and member login won't work in that copy.
Can I move my Wix site to WordPress?
Partly. WordPress.com's Wix importer brings over static pages, images, menus and the site title from your site's URL, but not your design or your blog posts. Posts come over through the RSS feed (20 most recent) or through Wix's Blog API with a developer's help.
Can I export my Wix blog posts?
Wix says it is not possible to export blog posts to other platforms, and the feature request is still collecting votes. The workarounds are the RSS feed, which holds the 20 most recent posts, the Blog API for developers, copying by hand, or capturing the post pages as HTML.
What happens to my domain if I leave Wix?
A domain bought elsewhere stays with your registrar; you change its DNS. A domain bought through Wix can be transferred away with an EPP code from your Wix account once it's past ICANN's 60-day lock, or kept at Wix with its nameservers changed. After a transfer, re-add your MX records or business email stops working.
Does Wix Studio let you export your site's code?
No. Studio sites have the same hosting rule as Wix Editor sites. Both can sync Velo code to GitHub, but that repository holds your page and backend code, not a site that runs anywhere else.
Can I move my Wix store to Shopify?
Products, customers and orders all export from Wix as CSV files. Shopify documents importing products and customers, and its Store Migration app, in early access, handles both for some stores. Shopify's docs say reviews can't be migrated from Wix, and order history needs a third-party app.
