There are three main ways to get AI to build a WordPress site. 10Web's AI builder generates the whole site and runs it on 10Web's managed WordPress hosting; Elementor's Site Planner uses AI to write a brief, sitemap and wireframes, then you build the pages in Elementor on any WordPress host; and WordPress.com's AI builder generates a site on WordPress.com hosting, on paid plans only. All three hand you a real WordPress site, which is exactly right if you need a blog, plugins or a WooCommerce store, and extra upkeep if you don't.

If 10Web is on your shortlist, our 10Web alternatives comparison goes deeper on that product.

Three different jobs for the AI

These tools do very different amounts of the work. Decide which job you want: build the finished site, plan a site you build yourself, or build one inside a hosting plan.

10Web: the AI builds the site, 10Web hosts it

10Web's AI website builder starts from a prompt, a link or a file, proposes a site plan, then builds every page. You change things by chatting with the AI or in a visual editor, and 10Web's agents can also redesign an existing page, clone a page from a URL or convert a Figma file.

Underneath is a full WordPress backend on 10Web's hosting (which runs on Google Cloud), so you can add WordPress plugins. 10Web also lists store features and simple app features such as bookings, memberships and forms.

Free access is unclear: one answer in 10Web's builder FAQ describes a 3-day free trial with 5 AI credits and says launching needs a paid plan, while another says launching on a yoursite.10web.site address is free. Expect to pay before going live on your own domain.

Elementor Site Planner: the AI plans, you build

Elementor is a WordPress page builder plugin, and Site Planner is its AI planning step. A guided AI chat (or notes from a recorded Google Meet) becomes a site brief, and from the brief it drafts a sitemap and wireframes you can regenerate page by page before creating the site.

The output is a structure, not a finished design: you build the real pages in the Elementor editor. (Elementor's separate agentic AI plugin, Angie, builds pages and manages WordPress sites.) You can launch on Elementor Host or import the result into a WordPress site on any host.

The core Elementor plugin is listed as free forever, but it runs on your own WordPress hosting and leaves out Theme Builder, Form Builder, Popup Builder, eCommerce features and support. Elementor's blog says Site Planner is free to use.

WordPress.com: the AI builds inside a hosting plan

WordPress.com's AI website builder works as a conversation. You describe the site, answer the AI's questions and review a site brief; the builder then generates a designed site that you keep changing by chatting. It's aimed at sites such as blogs, portfolios and service businesses.

Two limits matter. The AI builder is on paid plans only (the Personal plan lists it with usage limits); the free plan gives you a wordpress.com subdomain, 1 GB of storage and WordPress.com ads shown to visitors. And the AI doesn't build e-commerce or integrations, so you add those afterward, for example with WooCommerce. The result is a standard WordPress site that can use plugins as your plan allows.

Free access FAQ describes a 3-day trial with 5 AI credits (another FAQ says a 10web.site launch is free) Core plugin free on your own hosting; Site Planner free per Elementor's blog; an Elementor Host site without a subscription lasts 14 days Free plan (subdomain, ads, 1 GB), but the AI builder needs a paid plan
Export and portability Full site backup, SSH, SFTP and phpMyAdmin; no static HTML/CSS Website kit (.zip) for any WordPress site with the Hello theme and Elementor (Pro recommended) Content as XML, media separately; full backup on Business and Commerce plans

Read the renewal terms as well as the headline price: 10Web's listed prices assume you pay 12 months upfront, and Elementor's plan prices are introductory and renew at a regular rate.

What "export" means on WordPress

With many AI builders, export means a folder of HTML or a code project. A WordPress page isn't a file on a server, though; WordPress assembles it from a database, PHP code, a theme and plugins when someone requests it. So "exporting" a WordPress site means moving a WordPress site, files and database together, to another host that runs WordPress.

  • 10Web says there's no static HTML/CSS export, because WordPress generates the pages. You can download a full site backup from the dashboard and use SSH, SFTP and phpMyAdmin for backups or a migration. We couldn't confirm whether pages built with 10Web's builder keep working unchanged on another host, so test a restore there before you cancel anything.
  • Elementor packages a Site Planner site as a website kit, a .zip you import into any WordPress site running the Hello theme and the Elementor plugin (Pro recommended). It moves between WordPress hosts, but it stays a WordPress-and-Elementor site, not standalone HTML.
  • WordPress.com lets every site export posts, pages, comments, categories and tags as an XML file, with media exported separately. Its export documentation says theme design, customizations and plugins aren't included. Downloading a full site backup is limited to the Business and Commerce plans.

So portability on WordPress means moving to another WordPress host, not walking away with code that runs anywhere. Run an exit test in your first week:

  1. Download whatever backup or export your plan allows.
  2. Restore it on a separate WordPress install.
  3. Check every page on a phone and a desktop, then list what's missing or broken. That list is your real lock-in.

When WordPress is the right base

WordPress earns its weight when the site will keep growing:

  • You publish regularly. A blog or resource library with categories, tags, scheduled posts and archives is what WordPress was built for.
  • Several people edit. User roles give writers, editors and admins the access they need and no more.
  • You need a plugin for it. Memberships, event calendars, bookings, multilingual content and SEO tooling all have established WordPress plugins.
  • You sell online. WooCommerce is WordPress's best-known store plugin, and all three tools above support a store in some form.

When WordPress is overkill

Plenty of business sites are five to eight pages that change a few times a year. For those, WordPress brings ongoing work that doesn't buy much:

  • Updates. Core, theme, page builder and every plugin get updates that someone has to apply and test.
  • A server that runs code. Every page depends on PHP and a database, so you need hosting that runs both, and backups of both.
  • More to secure. An admin login, plugins and a database are more things to keep patched than a folder of HTML files.

Managed WordPress hosting, which 10Web and WordPress.com both sell, can take some of this off your plate; check what your host handles. Still, a site with no blog, no store and no plugin you depend on is a lot of machinery for pages that rarely change.

If you don't actually need WordPress

If all you need is a good-looking marketing site, a WordPress builder solves a problem you don't have. An AI builder that exports static HTML or a Next.js project gives you plain files: no database, no plugins to update, no admin login on the site. You put them on a static host such as Cloudflare Pages, whose free plan has no published bandwidth cap for static assets and includes custom domains.

That's how FNJ's AI website builder works. You describe the business and give it at least one reference: a screenshot, the link of a site whose look you like, or your project's brand files. It designs a responsive marketing site at desktop, tablet and phone widths, and you refine it in plain words or on the canvas. Then you download a Next.js App Router project or static HTML, or push the code to a branch of your own GitHub repository. The code carries no FNJ runtime, script or badge, and FNJ doesn't host it. FNJ is a paid tool with no free plan.

Be just as clear about what it isn't. FNJ has no CMS or blog engine, no store and no forms, so it is not a WordPress replacement for a content site or a store. If a marketing site needs one contact form or booking widget, link a form or booking service from a button, or paste its embed code into the builder's custom code panel. Our guide to HTML export vs Next.js export explains which format suits whom, and our roundup of the best AI website builders compares options beyond WordPress.

How to choose

  • Pick 10Web if you want the AI to build the whole WordPress site, you're happy hosting with 10Web, and you may want a store or plugins later.
  • Pick Elementor's Site Planner if you want AI help with structure, will build the pages yourself and want your own choice of WordPress host. Our Elementor alternatives page compares it with other builders.
  • Pick WordPress.com if you want hosted WordPress for a blog, portfolio or service business and will pay for a plan anyway. See our WordPress.com alternatives if its plans don't fit.
  • Skip WordPress if the site is a handful of marketing pages and you'd rather own plain files than maintain a WordPress install.

Weighing 10Web against a code-export builder

If 10Web is on your list but your site is a marketing site rather than a blog or a store, our 10Web alternatives comparison shows where FNJ fits: its AI designs the site from your references and hands you Next.js or HTML to host wherever you like. If you need a blog, a store or WordPress plugins, a WordPress builder remains the better choice.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI build a WordPress website?

Yes. 10Web's AI builder builds every page of a WordPress site, WordPress.com's AI builder generates a designed site on paid plans, and Elementor's Site Planner drafts a brief, sitemap and wireframes that you build in the Elementor editor. Each result is a WordPress site, not standalone code.

Is there a free WordPress AI website builder?

Partly. The core Elementor plugin is free on your own WordPress hosting, and Elementor's blog says Site Planner is free. WordPress.com's AI builder needs a paid plan, and 10Web's FAQ describes a 3-day trial with 5 AI credits, though another answer there says launching on a 10web.site address is free.

Can I export a WordPress AI site as HTML?

Not in the usual sense. 10Web says it has no static HTML/CSS export, Elementor's website kit imports into another WordPress site, and WordPress.com exports content as XML. What you move is a WordPress site, so you need a WordPress host on the other side.

Do I need WordPress for a small business website?

Only if you need what WordPress does well: a regularly updated blog, several editors, specific plugins or a WooCommerce store. A few marketing pages that rarely change can run as static HTML or Next.js on a static host, with less to update and secure.

Can a WordPress AI builder build my online store?

It depends on the tool. 10Web lists store features such as product and order management, checkout and payments, and Elementor's eCommerce features come with paid plans. WordPress.com's AI doesn't build e-commerce, so you add a store afterward, for example WooCommerce on the Commerce plan.
